Tennis Spotlight: Calvin Thalheimer

Congratulations to Calvin Thalheimer for making it to Nationals!

Based on his top 5 BC singles ranking, Calvin Thalheimer was selected to compete for Team BC (one of 6 boys chosen, and the only one from outside the Lower Mainland) at the 2017 Under 16 Indoor Rogers Junior Nationals. The event was held March 24-29 at Club de tennis Ile des Soeurs in Montreal.

Qualifying in singles for the main draw of 64, Calvin triumphed in a tough, first round match. Finding himself down 5-2 early, Calvin battled back to win 7-5, 6-0. Round two brought him face to face with National #5 seed Nick Lagaev.

In doubles, Calvin and new partner Eric Zhang of Vancouver made it to the quarter-finals before ultimately falling 7-6, 6-3 in a stunningly close match against the #1 seeded team (and eventual Junior National singles champion, and doubles runner-up) Taha Baadhi & partner Alex Antoine-Marquis.

Currently, Calvin is ranked #50 in the country for singles U16 and #17 in the country for doubles U16!
