Kate Simpson

Name: Kate Simpson

Global’s vibrant, human capsule of sunshine comes to us from Northern, BC. Four years ago Kate left the life she had created in Smithers, to embark on a new journey. Having spent many summers in the Okanagan and her children’s recent moves away from Smithers for school, Kate’s compass pointed at Kelowna. A Jane of all trades Kate has taught figure skating, group fitness, and yoga (200 RYT), flipped and built houses, owned her own home décor shop called “La Petite Maison Décor & Design Inc”, and has sat on many non-profit volunteer committees. Moving for a life of balance Kate came to us as a yoga and group fitness instructor. Lighting up the room with her positivity Kate found a place in her new community. Now four years later Kate has completed her 500 RYT in Hatha training (classical yoga), and continues to learn from other yogi’s in the community so that she can help bring her best practice to the mat!

  1. What made you get into group fitness/ yoga?

Initially Kate getting on the mat meant heading to a solid Pilates session. Yoga was never really on her radar until a new teacher moved to town. One class in and she was already hooked! While Kate really enjoyed her grounding mat time, her high-energy personality started to lean towards becoming group fitness certified so that she could teach spin and aerobic type classes at one of her favourite studios. Keeping up with her yoga practice all the time, Kate was approached by a yoga instructor that she adored who felt that Kate would be a fabulous instructor herself. Jazzed at the idea, Kate found a poster for 200 RYT training in Mexico. It already being January she realized the poster was from November and the course started in only five days! To her pleasant surprise there was exactly one spot left. Kate couldn’t help but feel that it was meant to be so she dropped everything and headed down for the three week training! Since her 200 RYT, Kate has spent the last two years completing her 500 RYT in Hatha yoga.

  1. What is your biggest struggle with life or work?

Kate has been lucky to have lived a very blessed life, however when she was 16 her health took a nose dive as she was diagnosed with kidney ailment. In and out of Children’s Hospital, Kate underwent surgeries and treatments for two years. This stopped her skating, which in turn changed her entire identity. No longer “Kate the Skater”, and caught behind in school, she was left to navigate her health while redefining who she was on top of the usual trials and tribulations of being a teenager. Thankfully Kate’s still has both of her kidney’s as the surgeons were able to repair the damage!

  1. What is your favourite physical activity?

Kate really loves yoga, skiing, paddle boarding, golf, tennis, and while she may be reluctant at it, she enjoys running!

  1. If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?

Kate would be on a plane to Thailand so that she could see the elephants!

  1. How do you evaluate success?

The desire to succeed would evaluate success for her regardless of what it is. To Kate success is more so measured on the effort and the desire to do whatever it takes than the actual outcome.

  1. If you were a super hero, what would your superpower be?

Inspired by The Incredibles, Kate would love to be invisible like the character Violet Parr!
