Noushi

Name: Noushi Fattahi

Originally from Persia (Iran), Noushi moved to Canada 30 years ago. While Noushi is an athletic type, she doesn’t actually consider herself an athlete. As a teenager, she was in volleyball and swimming. Now what fulfills her is being involved in a physical activity that gives her that connection between body, mind, and soul. Noushi feels there is a misconception among people that leaves them thinking yoga is just stretching, when yoga is far from just a stretch. 

  1. What made you get into practicing yoga, and later become a certified teacher?

My mother’s passing changed my life story. Seeing her suffer from chemotherapy side effects took a toll on me. After grieving for a long time (I still do…) I quit the job that not only wasn’t fulfilling but also made me extremely unhappy. I decided to study holistic nutrition and got deeper into my yoga practice. At that point, I had been practicing yoga for 8 years and the time had come for me to take the next step, “yoga teacher training”.

When the time came, I felt it. I was called to it. I was so ready.  There was no decision to be made.  I was led by my intuition to do it wholeheartedly – My intention was not to become a teacher, I was fascinated by the ancient philosophy behind it.  I was thirsty to learn more. Universe co-created the story with me and sent me the best person to teach me on my YYT journey. Ironically, he was one of the first teachers that introduced me to yoga years ago when I first started practicing… The rest is history…

Teaching yoga is the best thing that happened to me. The gratification from helping others feeling good and in peace is the best reward I get.

  1. What is your favourite childhood memory?

My favourite childhood memories are the hot summer days when my friends and I were out of school and spend practically the whole day and part of the evening in my backyard pool screaming and laughing our hearts out. We had no care in this world.  when exhausted and hungry my mother would serve us with the most delicious food I have ever tasted. I can still taste it. It puts a smile on my face.

  1. What is your biggest struggle with life or work?

When I see discord in life or/and at work. Life is short and we take it for granted. We get into disharmony and resentment, greed and jealousy, competition and rage when all will be left is kindness…

  1. What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?

It was back when I had an office job and I was confidently walking around the lunch room with my skirt tucked under my underwear for a while before someone brought it into my attention. For me this is a phobia now(LOL)

  1. What is your favourite physical activity?

All types of Yoga (Yoga helps me get out of my head and feel grounded, humble and mindful (you know what I mean if you are a Gemini or know a GeminiJ). I also love dancing specially belly dancing (Not too good at it but every time I try it, it makes me feel alive)

  1. What is your favourite local store and why?

I love love love local farmer’s market. Nothing beats the taste of fresh, organic, sun-kissed, naturally ripen fruit and vegetables that have not travelled long till they get into your hands. Supporting local farmers is the other advantage.

  1. How do you evaluate success?

Good work Ethic and persistence – seeing the struggles as speed bumps along the path and treating difficulties as challenges. Challenges that make you the strong person you become as a result. 

  1. If you were a super hero, what would your superpower be?

My greatest wish is to bring peace and love into this world.  I can only wish…
